When the sound runs slightly ahead of or behind the picture, it's hard to ignore — especially on news and interviews. On IPTV, lip-sync problems come either from the stream itself or, more often, from how your device, TV and soundbar process audio. This guide helps you work out which, and fix it.
Why IPTV Audio Goes Out of Sync
IPTV audio goes out of sync when sound and picture take different amounts of time to reach you. Common causes are a problem in one channel's stream, the player's video decoder, audio passthrough such as Dolby Digital, a soundbar or AV receiver adding delay, or the TV's picture processing. Most fixes are settings changes.
One Channel or Every Channel?
Switch between several channels first. If only one channel is out of sync, the problem is probably that channel's stream: restart it, try again later, and report it to your provider if it persists. If every channel is out, the problem is on your side — your player, device, TV or sound system — and the steps below apply.
Quick Fix: Restart the Stream
Stop playback and start the channel again, or change to another channel and back. Sync can drift after long viewing or after buffering. If that doesn't help, close the player app fully and reopen it, then restart the device itself. On a Firestick, hold Select and Play/Pause for a few seconds to restart.
Change the Decoder in Your Player
Most IPTV players let you choose between hardware and software decoding, and some offer several player engines. Switching often fixes sync problems. In most players these options are in the playback or player settings. Some players also have an audio delay setting that lets you shift the sound by a few milliseconds. See our TiviMate setup guide.
Check Audio Output and Dolby Settings
When a device passes Dolby Digital audio straight through to a soundbar or receiver, sync can shift. On Fire TV, go to Settings > Display & Sounds > Audio and try changing Surround Sound or Dolby Digital Output settings — for example switching to stereo or turning off Dolby Digital Plus — then test again. Android TV and Google TV devices have similar options under their sound or audio output settings.
Soundbars, AV Receivers and HDMI ARC
- Temporarily switch to the TV speakers: if sync is fine, the delay comes from the soundbar or receiver
- Look for an 'AV sync', 'lip sync' or 'audio delay' setting on the soundbar or receiver and adjust it
- If the soundbar connects by HDMI ARC or eARC, make sure HDMI-CEC and ARC are enabled on both the TV and soundbar
- Bluetooth speakers and headphones add noticeable delay; wired or HDMI connections are more accurate
Adjust AV Sync on Your TV
Heavy picture processing, such as motion smoothing, can delay the picture relative to the sound. Try your TV's Game or a low-latency picture mode to test, and turn off motion smoothing. Many TVs also have an audio delay or AV sync adjustment in their sound settings, usually for optical or ARC outputs. For other audio issues, see IPTV picture but no sound and audio but no picture.
