'Login failed', 'Invalid credentials', 'Authorisation failed' — these errors appear before you've watched a single channel, which makes them frustrating. The good news is that they almost always come down to a handful of causes, and most take a minute to fix. Work through them in this order.
Why IPTV Logins Fail
IPTV logins usually fail because the server URL is wrong or incomplete, the username or password has a typing mistake, the account isn't active yet or has expired, or the plan's maximum number of connections is already in use. Less often, the provider's server is temporarily unavailable or your network is blocking the connection.
Check the Server URL First
- Include http:// (or https:// if your provider specified it) at the start
- Include the port number if one was supplied, for example :8080 — missing ports are the most common error
- For Xtream Codes, enter only the server address and port; don't paste a full M3U link into the server field
- Remove any space or full stop accidentally copied at the end
- Compare character by character with the details your provider sent
If you're unsure which details go where, how to add Xtream Codes shows the format for the main apps.
Username and Password Mistakes
Usernames and passwords are case-sensitive, and on-screen TV keyboards make it easy to hit the wrong character. Look out for similar-looking characters such as a capital I and a lower-case l, or the letter O and zero. Copy and paste from the original message on a phone or computer where possible, or use a player that lets you add the playlist from another device.
Account Not Active or Expired
If you've just paid, activation may still be in progress — most accounts are ready within minutes, but it can take longer at busy times. If your plan has reached the end of its term, the login stops working until it's renewed. Check your order confirmation and renewal date, and contact support if you're not sure. Our guide to how IPTV subscriptions work explains activation and renewals.
Maximum Connections Reached
Each plan allows a set number of screens to stream at the same time. If that many devices are already playing, a new login attempt or channel may be refused with a 'max connections' message. Stop playback on another device, or close the app fully rather than leaving it in the background, and wait a minute before retrying. If you regularly need more screens, a plan with more connections is the fix.
What Common Error Codes Mean
- 401 Unauthorised: the username or password isn't accepted, or the account is inactive
- 403 Forbidden: the account is blocked, expired, or connecting from a location or IP address the server won't accept — try without a VPN
- 404 Not Found: the server URL or path is wrong
- Timeout or 'unable to connect': the server can't be reached — check your internet, then the URL and port
- 5xx errors (such as 500 or 503): a problem on the server side, usually temporary
Still Not Working?
- Try the same login in a different player app to see whether the problem is the app or the account
- Restart your router and device
- Clear the player app's cache or reinstall it
- If other devices on your network can't connect either, see IPTV connection problems
- Contact your provider's support with the exact error message and the app you're using
